Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying says the forthcoming negotiations with Iran over its nuclear energy program present an opportunity that must be seized.China believes that there have been some positive changes thanks to the concerted efforts of Iran and all other relevant parties, Hua said at a regular press conference on Thursday.
We hope that all parties could seize opportunities, be pragmatic and flexible, seek for common ground and remove differences so as to make early progress and create conditions for a full, proper and long-term settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue, she added.
She said Beijing welcomes the positive changes in Irans nuclear issue and will continue to play a constructive role in advancing the peaceful solution of the Iranian nuclear issue.
Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - Britain, China, France, Russia and the US - plus Germany held two days of negotiations over Tehrans nuclear energy program in Geneva, Switzerland, on October 15-16. The two sides have agreed to meet again in the Swiss city on November 7-8. Experts from both sides concluded talks on Thursday.
As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and one of six major world powers engaged in talks with Iran, China has always supported Tehran's right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes and stressed that negotiations are the right approach to addressing the dispute over the Islamic Republic's nuclear energy program.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman further pointed to the visit by Irans Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani to China and said her country views its ties with Iran from a strategic height and with long-term interests in mind.
China stands ready to carry forward the traditional friendship between the two countries and advance their friendship and cooperation across the board, Hua added.
She noted that in his meeting with Larijani, Chinese President Xi Jinping said the promotion of mutual relations not only serves the common interests of both countries, but also contributes to peace and stability in the Middle East.
Larijani arrived in Beijing on Tuesday on a four-day official visit to discuss the promotion of parliamentary, political, economic and cultural ties between Iran and China during his meetings with high-ranking Chinese authorities.
The visit comes at the invitation of Zhang Dejiang, the chairman of Chinas Standing Committee of the National Peoples Congress (NPC), which is the countrys top legislature.
