Japans foreign minister plans to visit Iran after the upcoming round of talks between the Islamic Republic and six major world powers in Geneva in November.Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said on Tuesday that he is scheduled to pay a visit to Iran on November 9, shortly after Tehran and the six powers - the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany - wrap up talks on Irans nuclear energy program in Geneva, AFP reports.
Iran and the six powers held two days of negotiations over the Islamic Republics nuclear energy program behind closed doors in Geneva on October 15-16. The two sides agreed to meet again in the Swiss city on November 7-8.
Kishida has a strong interest in the resolution of Irans nuclear issue, according to a Japanese Foreign Ministry official, whose name was not mentioned in the report.
The Japanese foreign minister is also expected to head to India following his trip to Iran.
Earlier in October, Japanese media reported that Kishida will discuss Tehran-Tokyo cooperation in the areas of environment protection and the campaign against drug trafficking with the Islamic Republic.
On September 6, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the 68th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral ties as well as major regional and international developments.
