An Iranian lawmaker says a parliamentary delegation will visit the site of a recent deadly attack on Iranian border guards in the southeast of the country near Pakistan.Seyyed Baqer Hosseini, member of Iran Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee said on Monday that the delegation, headed by the committees chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi, would travel to the region on Friday, November 1.
Seventeen Iranian border guards lost their lives and three others were wounded in a shoot-out with terrorists in the border region of Saravan in Irans southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan on October 25.
The Majlis committee held a session on Monday to investigate the border assault on the Iranian forces.
In the meeting it was decided that Irans foreign ministry officials [would]hold a meeting with the Pakistani government to provide security in the region, Hosseini said.
Irans Foreign Ministry on Saturday summoned Pakistans charg d'affaires in Tehran Sohail Siddiqui to voice the Islamic Republics protest over the deadly attack.
In the meeting, the Foreign Ministry strongly demanded that Islamabad acts in accordance with the security pact and extradition treaty signed between the two countries and apprehends the ringleaders as well as members of the terrorist group, who fled to Pakistan after the deadly incident.
In February, Iran and Pakistan signed a security agreement under which both countries are required to cooperate in preventing and combating organized crime, fighting terrorism and countering activities which pose a threat to the national security of either country.
