Iran Majlis endorses 2 out of 3 Rouhani Cabinet picks

Iran Majlis has endorsed two of President Hassan Rouhanis proposed Cabinet nominees but refused to give a vote of confidence to the third candidate.
Iranian lawmakers began discussing the qualifications of President Rouhanis proposed nominees for the three remaining vacancies in his Cabinet on Sunday morning.

Ali Asghar Fani succeeded in winning the Majlis vote of confidence as the Minister of Education after 185 lawmakers voted in favor, 53 against and 24 abstained.

The Majlis also approved Reza Faraji Dana as the Minister of Science, Research and Technology with 159 votes in favor, 70 against and 32 abstentions out of total votes cast by 261 lawmakers.

However, President Rouhanis choice for minister of sports and youth, Reza Salehi Amiri, lost the Majlis confidence vote as 141 legislators voted against, 107 in favor and 13 abstained. A total of 261 lawmakers cast their votes.
Addressing Majlis ahead of a vote of confidence for his nominees for the remaining Cabinet vacancies on Sunday, Rouhani said, The administration will not succeed on its path and in its missions if Majlis does not stand by the administration, and the administration by Majlis, with full strength.
On October 19, Rouhani submitted the names of the nominees to Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani for their credentials to be reviewed by the Iranian lawmakers.

The president appointed caretakers for the three ministries after Majlis did not grant votes of confidence to the initially-proposed nominees.

During a four-day debate in August, Majlis approved the credentials of 15 out of the 18 nominees introduced by Rouhani.
