Celebrated Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi has been invited to the 44th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) as the honorable guest in the jury panel.The Oscar-nominated director Majidi is slated to attend the gala along with a number of the worlds acclaimed cineastes such as the Academy-award winning American actress Susan Sarandon.
Some 216 films from 70 countries have been selected from among 650 submitted productions to vie at this years event that will take place in Goa from November 20 through 30.
Majid Majidi is an internationally and critically acclaimed Iranian film director, film producer, and screen writer whose films have touched on many themes and genres and has won many international awards.
Born in 1959, Majidi started his artistic life at the age of 14 with acting in amateur theater groups. He studied art at the Institute of Dramatic Art in Tehran.
His acclaimed film,Children of Heaven(1997), was the first Iranian film to have been nominated for an Academy Award (Best Foreign Language Film in1999.
Majidis 1999 filmThe Color of Paradisewas chosen one of the best 10 films of the year in the US in 2000.
He was also selected to be the head of Jury of Montral World Film Festival in 2002.
Majidi's recent cinematic rendition focuses on Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) life from childhood until prophethood. The first draft of the screenplay was co-authored by Majidi and Iranian filmmaker and screenwriter Kambuzia Partovi.
Baran(2001),The Willow Tree(2005),The Song of Sparrow(2008) are also among his remarkable directorial works.
