Several Egyptian security forces have been injured in an attack in the restive Sinai Peninsula as insecurity continues in the area.According to a security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, a truck carrying the soldiers came under attack by gunmen near Abu Tawila village in Sheikh Zuwaid, on Sunday.
The soldiers exchanged fire with the assailants, the source added.
Dozens of soldiers and policemen have lost their lives on a daily basis as security forces have been the target of attacks in Sinai in recent weeks.
On Friday, nine Egyptian soldiers were wounded in multiple bomb explosions in the town of Rafah, which borders the Palestinian Gaza Strip.
Moreover, the Sinai has long been considered a safe haven for militants who use the region as a base for terror activities.
The Friday blasts come one day after a car bomb explosion killed four soldiers at a checkpoint near the northern Sinai town of el-Arish.
On October 7, three people were killed and around 50 wounded when a car bomb detonated outside a security building in al-Tour, the capital of South Sinai.
Elsewhere, gunmen killed six soldiers in an attack on an army patrol in the Suez Canal city of Ismailiya.
Egypt has been experiencing unrelenting violence since July 3, when the army ousted President Mohamed Morsi, suspended the constitution, and dissolved the parliament. It also appointed the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court, Adly Mahmoud Mansour, as the new interim president.
The government of Mansour has launched a bloody crackdown on Morsi supporters and arrested more than 2,000 Muslim Brotherhood members, including the partys leader, Mohamed Badie, who was detained on August 20.
