Yemen urged to secure Iran diplomat release

A high-ranking Iranian official has called on Yemen to utilize all the means at its disposal to secure the release of an Iranian diplomat abducted in the Arab country.
During a meeting with a visiting Yemeni parliamentary delegation in Tehran on Monday, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian hailed the efforts exerted by the Yemeni government to ensure the release of Nour Ahmad Nikbakht -- the kidnapped administrative staff member at the Iranian Embassy in the Yemeni capital Sanaa.

He further noted that the Iranian officials, media, and public opinion are awaiting the official results of Yemens probe into the abduction case.

In late August, Irans Foreign Ministry dispatched a delegation to Yemen to investigate Nikbakhts fate.

During a meeting with Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi in Sanaa, the Iranian delegation condemned the incident as an inhumane act, and sought information on the latest measures taken by the Yemeni government to free the diplomat.

The Yemeni foreign minister said his government is making very serious efforts to secure the release of the Iranian diplomat.

Yemens Foreign Ministry announced on August 14 that it had no clues as to the whereabouts of the abducted Iranian diplomat.

Nikbakht, an administrative staff member of the Iranian Embassy in Sanaa, was on his way to work from his home in the citys diplomatic quarter on July 21, when unidentified gunmen blocked the road, forced him out of his vehicle and abducted him.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has already summoned the Yemeni charg d'affaires twice to express Tehran's concern over the fate of the diplomat and to remind Sanaa that it is responsible for Nikbakhts safety.
