Tehran, Oct 5, IRNA Iran and Russia, in line with their cordial relations, will continue negotiations on S-300 surface-to-air defense system until reaching an agreement so that Russia keeps its promises and supplies Iran with the system, the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Saturday.
Marzieh Afkham told IRNA that the end of the mission of Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Mahmoud-Reza Sajjadi has nothing to do with S-300 missile system issue.
Sajjadi has told Russian media that his mission in Moscow will expire in 20 days and he will come back to Tehran.
Afkham dismissed reports naming different diplomats for replacing Iranian ambassadors whose diplomatic mission has expired, saying, these reports lack the required accuracy and Foreign Ministry will release official news in this regard.
Since the formation of the new government of Iran under President Hassan Rouhani, Iran has only appointed Reza Najafi as its envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to replace Ali-Asghar Soltanieh while it is said that the missions of nearly 50 Iranian ambassadors have come to an end.
When asked about the presence of Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in the Sunday session of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament, Afkham said that based on the cooperation between the government and parliament, the foreign minister is to attend the session to brief the lawmakers on the achievements of his recent visit to New York.
The foreign minister will give a report to the parliament about his meetings with a number of his counterparts and high ranking officials from over 50 countries and international bodies and his interviews with foreign media on the sidelines of the 68th session of the UN General Assembly, Afkham said.
Foreign Minister Zarif will also give the assessment of the foreign policy apparatus about the international issues before and after the visit to New York by the Iranian delegation and the effects of June 14 presidential election on cooperation of other countries with Iran, she added.
