Member of Iran Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Ahmad Reza Dastgheib says more time is needed to break the wall of distrust between Iran and the US.A lot of time is needed to break the wall of distrust [between Iran and the US] and if change is seen in US behaviour, according to that change, there will be new conditions [in relations] and this change will be gradual, the Iranian lawmaker said on Sunday.
Dastgheib said Iran President Hassan Rouhani and his American counterpart, Barack Obama, have discussed the prospect of Tehran-Washington ties, but since the Iranian nation does not have good memories of the past actions of US politicians, there is a tall wall of distrust between the two countries.
The Iranian lawmaker stated that the Iranian delegation to the 68th annual session of the UN General Assembly in New York held various meetings with European officials at a different level.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is a powerful and important country in the [Middle East] region and Iran take notice of countries which have more influence on international relations, Dastgheib said.
The Iranian president received a phone call from his American counterpart on Friday before leaving New York for Tehran.
The telephone conversation was the first direct communication between an Iranian and a US president since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979.
The two presidents stressed Tehran and Washingtons political will to swiftly resolve the Wests dispute over Irans nuclear energy program, and exchanged viewpoints on various topics, including cooperation on different regional issues.
