TEHRAN (FNA)- If US Secretary of State John Kerry wants to visit Iran's Fordo underground uranium enrichment facility near the Central city of Qom, he should go through the legal procedures prescribed by the UN nuclear watchdog agency, a senior Iranian MP said Sunday.


"Visiting Iran's nuclear industry is subordinate to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) rules and we agree with any type of visit within the framework of IAEA regulations," Rapporteur of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Seyed Hossein Naqavi said in an interview with the parliament's news website on Sunday.

He referred to Kerry's comments who has voiced willingness to visit Iran's Fordo site, and said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty) and is an official member of this treaty, and we, thus, allow visits (to our nuclear sites) within the framework of the NPT and if John Kerry too wants to pay such a visit, he should move within the framework of the rules and go through the legal procedures."

Fordo enrichment facility hosts Iran's uranium enrichment to the purity level of 20% which is needed for fueling a research reactor in Tehran which produces radioisotopes for medical purposes.

Earlier this month, the western media claimed that Iran's new president Hassan Rouhani is willing to shut down its nuclear facility if the West agrees to lift the sanctions against the Islamic Republic, but Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi strongly rejected the claims.

"The closure of Fordo site is a sheer lie," Salehi told reporters at the end of a cabinet meeting in Tehran.
