Iran bags six medals in 2013 Islamic Solidarity Games
Iranian karate practitioners have managed to take home six medals, including three golds, at the 3rd edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in Indonesia.
On Monday, Iranian sportswoman Mahsa Afsaneh exhibited an impressive individual kata performance in the Sriwijaya Promotion Center of the Indonesian city of Palembang, and overcame her Egyptian, Malaysian, and Algerian rivals in her march to the final.

She defeated her Turkish opponent, Bigem Giroglu, in the final competition to clinch the gold medal.

Hamideh Abbasali claimed Irans second gold medal after she overwhelmed her Egyptian rival Aia Nabil Mousa Ibrahim in the womens kumite +68 kilogram.

Also on Monday, Iranian karateka Zabihollah Poursheib defeated Atamov Shahin of Azerbaijan in the men's kumite +84 kilogram and grabbed another gold for the Iranian squad.

Pegah Zangeneh also snatched a silver medal in womens -68 kilogram kumite after she conceded a defeat against Turkish karate practitioner Merve Coban.

Delaram Dousti raised Irans total medal count to five after she collected a silver medal in the womens -61 kilogram competitions.

Moreover, Nasrin Dousti of Iran brought home a bronze medal in the women's -50 kilogram kumite contests.

The 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games opened in the Indonesian city of Palembang on September 22, and will wrap up on October 1.

A total of 88 athletes are representing Iran in the competitions. Athletes from 55 countries are in action across 13 sports.

They are competing in archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, football, karate, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting and wushu.
