Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has said that US interventionist policy is not in the interest of American people, thanking Russia for helping Syria face 'savage attack'.Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has criticized US foreign policy in the Middle East, saying that Washington's Mideast policy is not in line with the interests of the American people.
Assad said on Wednesday that US policy in the Middle East is concentrated on imposing its hegemony on the people of the region, unleashing wars and interfering in the internal affairs of other countries.
This policy does not reflect the American people's interests and goes against (their) values and interests, AFP quoted Assad as saying.
He made the remarks during a meeting with American personalities, including former members of the Congress, journalists and peace activists, opposed to Western intervention in Syria.
Also on Wednesday, the Syrian president thanked Russia for helping his country face down a savage attack by Western-backed militants during talks with the visiting Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
Assad added that Moscows position on Damascus has raised hopes that a new map for the global balance would be drawn.
On Tuesday, Ryabkov accused UN inspectors investigating chemical attacks in Syria of being biased and one-sided.
We were disappointed, to say the least, with the approach adopted by the UN and the UN inspectors, who were in Syria, which was very selective and incomplete, without regard to the circumstances, and was compiled without the collection of materials in the other three sites, Ryabkov said on Tuesday following a meeting in Damascus with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem.
The 38-page UN report on the chemical attack near the Syrian capital on August 21 confirmed on Monday that chemical arms were indeed used at the site. The report, however, did not apportion blame for the attack.
