Iran, US exchange messages on Syria, says Zarif

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif announced that some messages have been exchanged between Iran and the US on Syria.
"Iran and the US messages have been exchanged and we continue this process if necessary," Zarif told reports in Iraq.

His remarks came while Iranian officials have recently condemned any military operation against Syria, and warned that launching any attack against the crisis-hit country would wage war across the region.

Also, asked about remarks of a British official who has said G5+1 offer to Iran discussed in Almaty is still on the table, Zarif said, "I think they (G5+1) should not go back to the past, but need to take a new approach, an approach which shows their will to solve the nuclear issue."

He further said Iran is ready to ease the international concerns over its nuclear program through cooperation with other sides willing to work on the issue.

The Iranian Foreign Minister also called for the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany to reconsider their policy towards Iran and lay down 'carrot and stick' policy that have been pursuing towards Iran over last 10 years.

"They (G5+1) have had a wrong policy during the 10 years and they got nothing. The policy needs to be reconsidered."

Elsewhere in his remarks, concerning a meeting with his British counterpart William Hague on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York, he said, "British Foreign Secretary has expressed his willingness for a bilateral meeting publicly and privately. We have no problem for a meeting on the sidelines of the gathering. We will do based on rules and regulation of Iranian organizations including the Islamic Consultative Assembly if the other side has the political will for bilateral relations with Tehran."
