TEHRAN (FNA)- The attack on the Iranian Consulate in Afghanistans Southeastern city of Herat on Saturday was a premeditated move to damage Tehran-Kabul bilateral relations, an official on Saturday.Foreign hands are always trying to disrupt the friendly relations between the two nations of Iran and Afghanistan, Press Director of the Iranian Consulate in Herat Seyed Hadi Ghafouri told FNA today.
He underlined that todays preplanned attack has left heavy damage on the Iranian Consulate buildings faade, but the consulates staff members are safe and sound.
His remarks came after a group of protesters attacked the Iranian Consulate in Afghanistan's Herat city on Saturday morning.
Spokesman for Afghanistans Herat Police Abdelraouf Ahmadi announced that the security forces prevented the protesters who were trying to set the Iranian Consulate ablaze in the Afghan city.
We firmly confronted the rioters. An assailant was killed and three others wounded in clashes, Ahmadi said.
He underlined that four police forces were also wounded and transferred to Herat Hospital.
Eyewitnesses told FNA that 500 people who claimed the Iranian Consulate has not paid the cash money for their work visa gathered in front of Herat governorate building in the city and called for the provincial officials attention to their problem, but when they saw no reaction from them they joined a number of rioters and attacked the consulate building causing a lot of damage to the building.
The Herat police forces are now in full control of the Iranian Consulate in Herat.
Some local media reported that two people, including a police soldier, have been killed and four others killed during the clashes.
Since two years ago, Iran has initiated a plan according to which Afghan workers can obtain one-year work visas after paying $400 cash to Iranian-Afghan Bank in guarantee funds.
