Tehran, Aug 20, IRNA Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Araqchi voiced regret and concern over the escalating violence in Egypt and urged immediate halt to the killings, violence and arrests in that Arab country.
Talking to reporters during his weekly press briefing here Tuesday, he commented on the arrest of the Muslim Brotherhood leader and continued clashes in the country, stressing that Iran urges all parties in Egypt to exercise restraint and settle their differences through dialogue and interaction.
Noting that both the leaders and the people in Egypt are intelligent, he stressed that the Zionist regime would be the only winner of any probable civil war in Egypt.
He further commented on the last night phone conversation between the new Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the UN Special Enovy on Syrian affairs Lakhdar Brahimi and said though the dialogue focused on situation in Iraq, the issue of Egypt was also reviewed by the two politicians.
He said FM Zarif stressed the need for international attempts to stop violence in Egypt and find a peaceful solution to the problem in the country.
Asked to comment on certain news that Iran has been limiting the stockpile of 20-percent enriched uranium, he said Irans nuclear program is to meet the countrys domestic needs so it is only the Islamic Republic to decide how much to produce or store enriched uranium.
