TEHRAN (FNA)- Several Russian experts questioned effectiveness of the western sanctions against Iran, and recommended that the so-called crippling sanctions imposed on Iran's economy be lifted in a bid to reach a meaningful deal over the country's nuclear issue.Director of the Russian Center for Socio-Political Studies Vladimir Yevseyev said at a press conference, These sanctions are unethical and, devised aimed at punishing the Iranian nation, and are quite unrelated with the countrys nuclear program.
Yevseyev pointed out that the last set of the US sanctions against Iran were ratified at the US Congress simultaneously with the swearing-in ceremony of Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, which showed Washingtons antagonist standpoint, adding, The US must revise its policies towards Iran.
The head of Russia's Center for Contemporary Studies on Iran, Rajab Safarev, too, said at the press conference, Iran sanctions have inflicted heavy material losses against hundreds of European firms.
He added, Many of the companies which were cooperating with Iran have lost an important economic partner due to the sanctions and have been deprived of the huge Iranian market.
The head of Russia's Center for Contemporary Studies on Iran expressed the hope that the western countries would by lifting the sanctions correct their mistake about Iran.
The Head of the Islamic Committee of Russia, Heidar Jamal, too, said at the press conference, The reason for imposing these sanctions is the Wests enmity against Tehran and its insistence over independent policies at the international scenes.
Jamal said, If the West intends to achieve success in G5+1(the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) talks with Iran, it must end its unilateral behavior and bullying, also end its baseless claims, and enter the course of negotiations frankly and from equal stands with Iran.
Washington and its western allies accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, while they have never presented any corroborative evidence to substantiate their allegations. Iran denies the charges and insists that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
Tehran stresses that the country has always pursued a civilian path to provide power to the growing number of Iranian population, whose fossil fuel would eventually run dry.
Despite the rules enshrined in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitling every member state, including Iran, to the right of uranium enrichment, Tehran is now under four rounds of UN Security Council sanctions and the western embargos for turning down West's calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment.
Tehran has dismissed West's demands as politically tainted and illogical, stressing that sanctions and pressures merely consolidate Iranians' national resolve to continue the path.
Tehran has repeatedly said that it considers its nuclear case closed as it has come clean of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)'s questions and suspicions about its past nuclear activities.
