Vice-Speaker of Irans Majlis Mohammad Reza Bahonar says that the Iranian legislature will remain in session on Thursday until debates on all Cabinet picks are concluded and confirmation votes are cast.
The second shift of the Majlis session on Thursday will be extended until 8 pm local time (15:30 GMT), and if the debate on the credentials of the remaining nominees does not conclude by then, work will run through a third shift so that the results of the voting are announced, Bahonar was quoted as saying by Majlis official news agency, ICANA.
Bahonar said it is unlikely for the proceedings not to finish on the third shift, but if that happens, they will have to continue on Saturday.
Under the Majlis bylaws, said the senior legislator, there will be no problem if the debate resumes on Saturday, but we are trying to conclude the proceedings today.
President Hassan Rouhani submitted the list of his Cabinet nominees during his swearing-in ceremony in Majlis on August 4.
The MPs have been reviewing the qualifications of the nominees since Monday.
Meanwhile, if any of the 18 proposed ministers fails to win a vote of confidence, Rouhani will have up to three months to name a replacement.
