According to The Iran Project, Addressing an event held in Tehran on Wednesday in commemoration of the fifth anniversary of the martyrdom of General Soleimani, General Iraj Masjedi described the late commander as a global symbol of serious battle against terrorism.

He noted that Donald Trump, who was the president of the US in January 2020, did the terrorist currents in the world the biggest service by ordering a military strike that assassinated General Soleimani in Iraq.

Trump’s official admission that he had ordered the assassination of General Soleimani ran counter to all legal, international, moral and human rights principles, Masjedi stated.

He also paid tribute to the late Iranian commander as a savior of innocent victims of crimes committed by the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in the region.

General Soleimani, the former commander of the IRGC Quds Force, was assassinated along with his Iraqi trenchmate Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Units, in a US drone strike ordered by ex-president Trump near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.

Both commanders were highly popular because of the key role they played in eliminating the Daesh terrorist group in the region, particularly in Iraq and Syria.
