According to The Iran Project,Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian held a telephone call with his Australian counterpart Penny Wong on Thursday to exchange views on the issues of mutual interests and the latest regional developments including the situation in the Gaza Strip.

While calling for pursuing diplomatic dialogues to boost mutual ties, the Iranian official stressed the need to make joint efforts to overcome impediments in line with further expanding the diplomatic relations.

Amirabdollahian criticized the United Nations Security Council for ignoring Iran’s request to condemn the Israeli regime's air attack on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus.

Some Western governments have avoided condemning the terrorist act, which explicitly violates international law and conventions, and have continued to support the Zionists’ atrocities by calling for Iran's restraint in this regard, he underlined.

The Iranian diplomat called for pressuring the Israeli regime to put an end to the genocidal war in Gaza which has led to Gazans’ malnutrition among other things.

For her part, Wong said that Canberra recognizes Tehran’s concern following the attack on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus but urges Iran to exercise restraint to this end.

The Australian side also expressed concern over the escalation of tensions and countermeasures and the spread of the war with uncontrollable consequences that are beyond the region's capacity.
