At least 45 people have been killed in an airstrike carried out by US-led forces in Afghanistans southern province of Helmed,Press TVreports.
Following the attack, which took place on Friday, the provincial government issued a statement, saying all those killed were Taliban militants.
However, the militant group has not yet commented on the attack.
On June 21, another US-led airstrike claimed the lives of two Afghan civilians in the southeastern Paktika province.
Thousands of people have died in US-led airstrikes in Afghanistan since the invasion of the country. The Afghan government has repeatedly called on the foreign forces to stop the airstrikes in residential areas.
Washington claims that the strikes target militants, but local sources say civilians have been the main victims. The civilian casualties have been a major source of tension between Kabul and Washington.
The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of the so-called war on terror. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity remains across the country.
