The Iran Project - At the head of a high-ranking delegation, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has arrived in Riyadh on his first official visit to Saudi Arabia since the two countries restored diplomatic ties.
The top Iranian diplomat left Tehran for Riyadh on Thursday at the official invitation of his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud.
Upon arrival at Riyadhs international airport, the chief Iranian diplomat was welcomed by Saudi authorities.
During his visit, Amirabdollahian is expected to hold talks with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan and other Saudi authorities.
The Iranian foreign minister is going to discuss a broad range of issues in the visit to Saudi Arabia, including the relations between Tehran and Riyadh, the issues of mutual interest concerning the Muslim world, as well as the regional and international developments.
The Iranian ambassador to Riyadh, Alireza Enayati, is also accompanying Amirabdollahian and will officially begin his mission. This visit marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to improve relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
The visit comes after both countries signed a China-brokered agreement to mend their diplomatic ties and reopen embassies.
Back in March, the two sides agreed to resume diplomatic relations after several days of intensive negotiations hosted by Beijing. They later appointed new ambassadors to the other countrys capital.
