Iran's FM calls for bolstering Iran-Iraq banking ties

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in a telephone conversation with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein urged boosting banking cooperation between Iran and Iraq.






During a telephone call early on Friday, Amirabdollahian and Fuad Hussein has discussed the latest issues of mutual ties.

They stressed the implementation of the signed security agreement between the two countries.

The two sides also reviewed the necessity of strengthening Iran's gas pipeline to Iraq as well as regional cooperation.

Thanking the Iraqi side for the financial and banking transfers related to the Iranian hajj pilgrims from Iran's financial sources, Amirabdollahian called for strengthening banking cooperation between the two neighboring states.

Meanwhile, in April, the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) denied reports it suffered any losses because of converting its dollar debts from Iraq to the currency of the Arab country.

There has been absolutely no conversion of resources outside of the official mechanisms and on irregular rates, theCBIsaid in a Saturday statement covered by the official IRNA news agency.

The statement came after reports suggested Iran had to forfeit some 40% of the debts it is owed for the supply of energy to Iraq because it was forced to receive payments in Iraqi dinar.
