Some 66 out of 108 Iranian students, who are studying at universities in quake-hit areas of Turkiye, have been transferred to Iran, an official said.

Reza Ebrahimi, deputy governor general of West Azarbaijan Province for political and social affairs, told IRNA on Thursday that 66 students have entered the country through Razi border crossing by the use of two buses.

He went on to say that other 44 Iranian students are going to return to Iran in a few hours.

In accordance with the preparations, non-local students will be settled at Urmia University temporarily and then, they will be sent to their hometowns, the official noted.

The pace of transferring the Iranian students from quake-stricken areas of Turkiye will continue, he added.

The latest updates of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake, which struck Turkiye and Syria on Monday, show that the death toll tops 15,000.
