Remarks by Egypts Foreign Ministry spokesman [Badr Abdelatty] about Irans meddling in Egypts domestic crises are aimed at shifting the blame for [Cairos] inability to manage the countrys domestic affairs and diverting the public opinion from the realities in Egypt, said Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Irans Majlis.
All countries, including Iran, comment on the Egypt issue; but based on international norms, that by no means equates interference, he pointed out.
Egypt plunged into a fresh wave of unrest after General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, head of the Egyptian army, declared on June 3 that President Mohamed Morsi was no longer in office and announced the suspension of the countrys Constitution after days of massive anti-government protests across Egypt.
A day later, Chief Justice of Egypts Supreme Constitutional Court Adli Mansour, was sworn in as the interim president of the country. The Egyptian military said Morsi was being held preventively.
Boroujerdi also argued that although most analyses attribute the recent crisis in Egypt to Morsis mistakes, he had gained power within the democratic framework recognized in the world today and through election, and that altering this framework through military force is not acceptable.
Iran believes that the freedom and the votes of nations must be respected, and we hope the changes brought about in Egypts political structure will be in such a way that the US and Israel will not once again get the chance to capitalize [on the situation] in the country, he added.
The Iranian lawmaker noted that the US and Israel seek to sow discord and stoke tension in Islamic nations, adding, After the emergence of Islamic Awakening in the region, the two (the US and Israel) used everything in their power to deflect Islamic Awakening from its path and incite sectarian and religious disputes, the latest instance of which is the Egypt crisis.
