“Rainbird” troupe cancels Dubai performance

TEHRAN , July. 8 (MNA) – Veteran Iranian director Pari Saberi’s troupe has canceled its planned performance of “Rainbird” in Dubai over the United Arab Emirates’ decision to expel Iranian nationals from the emirate.
The producer of the play, Jahangir Kowsari, announced on June 11 that the troupe was planning to perform the play in Germany, South Korea, China and Dubai during a tour, which was scheduled to commence from October.

“We crossed out Dubai since we have been informed about the expulsion of Iranians from the emirate and the harsh treatment of our countrymen there,” Kowsari announced in a press release on Sunday.

Over the past few months, the UAE has revoked the residency of scores of Iranians, some of whom had been living in the country for 25 years, and forced them to leave the United Arab Emirates without providing any reason, Press TV reported on Saturday, quoting ISNA.

“Rainbird” is based on a story from the Persian poet Ferdowsi’s magnum opus the Shahnameh. It tells the story of the battle between the evil ruler Zahhak and the mythical hero Kaveh.

The play premiered at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall in early May and remained on stage until June 21.
