Financial Tribune - Tehran痴 Mehrabad International Airport transported 291,739 passengers during the first month of the current Iranian year (March 20-April 19) to register a 70% decline compared with last year痴 similar month, according to the airport痴 managing director.
Ebrahim Moradi added that the number of takeoffs and landings at the airport stood at 3,455, down by more than 65% year-on-year, IRNA reported.
Iran Airtour had the highest share in terms of number of passengers transported. The airline transported 81,977 passengers during the month under review.
Meanwhile, IranAir operated the highest number of flights with 690, Ministry of Roads and Urban Development's news service reported.
Mehrabad is the busiest airport in Iran. The airport recently reopened its Terminal 1 that had been closed since March 18 due to the decrease in flights as a result of the outbreak of the new coronavirus.
Accordingly, the airlines of Kish Air, Zagros and Varesh resume operating flights in Terminal 1 of the international airport henceforth.
Mehrabad has four terminals.
Until 2007 and before the construction of Tehran痴 larger new airport (Imam Khomeini International Airport), Mehrabad was Tehran's prime airport handling both international and domestic traffic. But after 2007, international flights were transferred to IKIA.
All International flights in Tehran are currently served by Imam Khomeini International Airport and all domestic flights are served by Mehrabad.
