Spokesman calls “Illegal” US officials’ allegations on Iranian satellite

FNA - Guardian Council Spokesman Abbasali Kadkhodayee said on Thursday that US officials’ claim on Iranian military satellite is lacking legal basis, stressing the peaceful usage of the satellite.

“Given Iran’s peaceful nuclear and missile program, the US and European officials’ claim on Iran’s military satellite have no legal basis,” he added.

Writing in his Twitter account on Thursday, Kadkhodaei said, “UNSC Resolution 2231 does not ban Iran’s missile activities. Other prohibitions only include those missiles that are designed for carrying nuclear warhead.”

The IRGC successfully launched and placed Iran’s first military satellite named Nour (Light) 1 into the orbit on Wednesday.

The IRGC fired the satellite aboard Qassed (Carrier) satellite carrier during an operation that was staged in Dasht-e Kavir, Iran’s sprawling Central desert.

The satellite was placed into the orbit 425km above Earth’s surface.

IRGC Top Commander Major General Hossein Salami said earlier on Thursday that the military satellite, Nour 1, will further boost the IRGC defense force's strategic power of intelligence and information.
