Irans Foreign Ministry submits quarterly report on JCPOA to parliament

Tasnim Irans Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed over another quarterly report to the parliament on the process of implementation of the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Speaking to Tasnim, Mohammad Ebrahim Rezaei, the chairman of the Nuclear Committee of the parliaments National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said the 14th report of the Foreign Ministry about the JCPOA implementation process has been submitted to the MPs.

He further said the 14th and 15th quarterly reports by the Foreign Ministry and those provided by the commissions members after their visits to the countrys nuclear sites will be used to prepare and compile the 6th biannual report of the parliament on the JCPOA.

The lawmaker also said the commissions members plan to visit the Arak heavy water reactor and nuclear facilities in Natanz and Fordow in coming days.

Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015, reached a conclusion over the text of the JCPOA.

The accord took effect in January 2016 and was supposed to facilitate Irans foreign trade by terminating the nuclear-related sanctions, but the US sanctions and threats have discouraged major world banks and companies from working with Iran.

According to a law that requires the Iranian administration to safeguard the nations achievements and nuclear rights, the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has a duty to monitor the proper implementation of the JCPOA, and is required to submit a report on the issue to the presiding board of the parliament every six months.
