TEHRAN, Jun. 26 (MNA) � A part of the private life of the former Iranian monarch, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, has inspired a play entitled �Flight to Darkness�, which has gone on stage at Tehran�s Av Theater.
Director/writer Afshin Hashemi also drew inspiration from the French playwright and filmmaker Jean Cocteau�s �The Eagle Has Two Heads�, and �You Were Busy Dying�, a collection of world�s contemporary poetry which has been compiled by Iranian translator Mohammadreza Farzad, to write the play, the Persian service of ISNA reported on Tuesday.

The story of the play is set in Iran between April 1958 when Mohammad Reza Pahlavi split from his second wife Soraya Esfandiary-Bakhtiari and November 1959 when he married Farah Diba.

�There is not even one word of the play that is based on historical events,� Hashemi has said in an interview.

�We only use a historical period during which the Shah lived as a single man for 19 months. We imagined that in the period, the Shah loved a woman whose name was Lady Parizad,� he added.

Hashemi, Shabnam Moqaddami and Milad Rahimi star in the play, which was warmly received during its second performance on Sunday.

The troupe will perform the play until July 26.
