FM Spox: Personal reason behind attack on Portugal mission staff

IRNA Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said the Tuesday night armed attack on a staff member of Portugal embassy in Tehran was due to personal hostility.


Confirming the news about the attack which happened in north of Tehran, he told IRNA that based on the preliminary investigations and the police report the person served as a staff member in Portuguese diplomatic mission in Tehran.

He added that investigations are still underway.

A middle-aged member of the Portuguese embassy in Tehran with an Iranian origin escaped an assassination attempt on Tuesday.

The person was transferred to hospital and is in good health conditions now.

On Tuesday, head of Tehran Police Information Center Colonel Babak Namak Shenas told IRNA that the attackers shot the man using an air pistol.

He said initial investigations show that the incident happened due to personal hostility.
