MNA The Central Bank of Iran and Syrias Central Bank signed a banking cooperation agreement on Tuesday with the aim of boosting cooperation and coordination between the two institutes.
According to Syrian SANA news agency, the agreement was signed by governors of Syrias and Irans Central Banks in Damascus on Tuesday.
The agreement is aimed at serving stabilization of the banking sector and enhancing it and facilitating trade exchange and encouraging investment as well as boosting economic relations in light of the current circumstances.
After signing the document, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran AbdolnasserHemmatiposteda message on the Internet, saying that based on the agreementthe the two countries will establishbrokerage relations and a licence forestablishing a joint Iranian and Syrian bank in Damascus is issued.Under the agreement, thecentral banks of the two countries will open bank accounts for each other andthe transactions will be carried out usingthe two countries'national currencies.
A large Iranian economic delegation, includingAbdolnasserHemmati, headed byIranian First Vice-President Eshagh Jahangiri arrived in Damscus on Monday fora two-day visit to boost bilateral economic cooperation.
According to Syrian news agency, SANA, during the first day of the visit on Monday, Syria and Iran signed 11 agreements, memos of understanding and executive programs to enhance cooperation between them in the economic, cultural, scientific, infrastructure, service, investment and housing fields.The agreements were inked at the end of meetings of the 14th session of the Syrian-Iranian Higher Committee. In addition, theBusinessmen and representatives of companies from Iran and Syria participatedinIranian-Syrian Business Forum which was held in Damascus on Tuesday in the presence of First Vice-President of Iran Eshagh Jahangiri and Prime Minister of Syria Imad Khamis.
