Envoy: EU able to reinforce anti-US positions

IRNA The unity among European states in the United Nations Security Council can reinforce EU's stances as regard international security issues against US, Iran envoy in London said.

In a series of Twitter messages, Hamid Baeidinejad referred to the UNSC European member states' meeting in Brussels, saying the decision will be regarded as the start of a new movement.

He also pointed to the latest developments including anti-Iran meeting which is slated to be held in Poland, saying besides UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt's conditional attendance in this meeting, other European countries have not so far expressed their readiness to attend it.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo earlier announced holding a meeting with the focus on Iran on February 13-14.

He claimed that countries from Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East will participate in this meeting.

The meeting will be held in line with US efforts to promote Iranophobia policy.

Elaborating on the latest developments of the Warsaw meeting, Baeidinejad said US and Poland have repeatedly underlined that the conference is aimed at maintaining general consultations over the Middle East and Iran is not the topic of the meeting.

Belgium Foreign Minister Didier Reynders also said that he will not participate in the meeting but will send an envoy, Iranian ambassador noted.

He added that the EU Foreign Policy chief Federica Mogherini will not attend the conference.

Pointing to inviting Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki to attend the meeting, Baeidinejad said it shows that the meeting is not to focus on Iran.

It has been emphasized that the conference is aimed to hold consultations and will not have any statement.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a post on his Twitter page wrote, Reminder to host/participants of anti-Iran conference: those who attended last US anti-Iran show are dead, disgraced, or marginalized. And Iran is stronger than ever.'

He added, Polish Govt can't wash the shame: while Iran saved Poles in WWII, it now hosts desperate anti-Iran circus.'

Addressing his Monday press conference, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said thanks to the nature of some newly-joined countries to the European Union which had clear background in creating problems in the region, the Warsaw meeting is aimed at making rift between Iran and Europe.
