IRNA - A top military advisor to the Iranian Supreme Leader highlighted the importance of promoting security in Afghanistan and voiced Iran's willingness to help talks between Afghan government and Taliban to reach understanding.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said Iran is conducting negotiations with Taliban in the framework of international regulations.

He added that Taliban is willing to play a role in establishing peace in Afghanistan.

As part of Afghan society, Taliban has its own opinions and tends to have a share in Afghan defense and security bodies, he noted.

Referring to the fact that Iran pursues interests in holding talks with Taliban, Firouzabadi said since Iran is neighbors with Afghanistan, its security is of prime importance for Tehran so Iran has agreed to help negotiations between the Afghan government and Taliban group to make them develop a common understanding to be able to confront enemies.

Earlier on December 31, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi confirmed that a Taliban delegation held extensive talks with Iran�s Deputy Foreign Minister for political affairs Abbas Araqchi in Tehran.

Meanwhile, The Taliban spokesman Zabihollah Mojahed has acknowledged Iran attempts to establish peace and stability in Afghanistan.

In his statement, Mojahed announced that the Taliban delegation had a trip to Tehran to pursue peace process in Afghanistan.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Firouzabadi referred to Iran's positive role in the region, saying that in current conditions, Iran is playing major role in establishing security in the region.

Pointing to developments in eastern Euphrates, he said Iraq and Turkey will own their share of this area.

Highlighting Iran's support of other countries' legal sovereignty, he said based on the agreements between Iran, Turkey, Russia, Iraq and Syria, all sides are for respecting the defined border lines.

Elsewhere in the interview, Firouzabadi referred to Yemeni war, saying US is going in the way of aggression, intervention and viciousness.

He also urged the US to stop its interventions because it is America's ultimate fate to leave the region.

Saudi Arabia and its regional allies attacked Yemen in March 2015 to bring back to power the deposed president of Yemen Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi.

Since then, the invaders have committed horrible war crimes against Yemeni civilians.
