Queiroz: Iran not under pressure to win AFC Asian Cup

Press TV - Iran head coach Carlos Queiroz says his team is not under pressure to win the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Iran have won the AFC Asian Cup on three occasions - 1968, 1972 and 1976 - but that last triumph came 43 years ago.

Queiroz's Iran are the top-ranked Asian side in the FIFA world rankings. But the 53-year-old coach was quick to transfer the responsibility and pressure of winning the AFC Asian Cup competition to the likes of four-time winners Japan, defending champions Australia, and two-time champions South Korea.

The Portuguese tactician has led Iran to the FIFA World Cup twice in 2014 and 2018 - successes that have seen Iran climb to 29th in the world rankings.

Iran feature in Group D of the AFC Asian Cup where they will face Yemen in their opening match on Monday, before they take on Vietnam and Iraq.
