Tasnim Commander of the Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi announced on Friday that a new generation of domestically made destroyers will be unveiled in the near future.
Addressing a congregation of worshippers here in Tehran on Friday, Admiral Khanzadi praised the countys military achievements over the past 40 years and said, we will witness the addition of a new generation of Mowj-class (Wave-class) destroyers dubbed Sahand to the Navys fleet.
The Dena and Damavand destroyers, as well as Fateh submarine, will also join the fleet in the near future, the commander added.
He further pointed to Irans military presence in high seas and said the Navy has dispatched 58 fleets to the Gulf of Aden to combat pirates, adding that international organizations have numerously praised the performance of the Iranian naval fleets.
Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.
In line with international efforts to combat piracy, the Iranian Navy has also been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden to safeguard the vessels involved in maritime trade, especially ships and oil tankers owned or leased by Iran.
