The US President berated British Prime Minister Theresa May overthe phone while flying Air Force One toParis last Friday, The Washington Post reported.
Trump reportedly criticised May overthe lack ofaction fromthe British side inIran, questioned her overthe Brexit deal and complained aboutEuropean-American trade relations. US and European officials, briefed onthe conversation, told The WP that Prime Minister May and her aides were particularly shaken bythis call, despitehaving endured criticism fromTrump before.
May had argued beforethat Iran is meeting all its obligations underthe 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal despiteTrump exiting the agreement and reimposing sanctions.
We believe that [the nuclear deal] should stay inplace, and others involved inputting that deal together believe that it should stay inplace, May said inan interview aired inSeptember onCBS's "Face the Nation" while noting that there are other aspects ofIran's behaviour that we need tobe dealing with, too.
The US introduced the second package ofanti-Iranian sanctions last week. The previous package was imposed inAugust afterUS President Donald Trump ordered the US towithdraw fromthe 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal back inMay 2017. Other countries included inthe deal cited a UN nuclear watchdog report which said Iran was complying withthe conditions ofthe deal.
