IRNA- The head of the Prisons Organization of Iran, said that 92% of foreign prisoners in Iran are Afghan nationals.
Asghar Jahangir said in a meeting with Afghan Justice Minister Abdul Basir Anwar on Sunday that 2.5 percent of the prisoners in the country are foreign nationals and 92 percent of them are Afghans.
He continued, 'Only 3% of prisoners are female and 97% are male and they spend their sentence in the 27 provinces of the country. 23% of these prisoners are in Tehran, 11% in Khorasan Razavi and 10% in Isfahan.
The head of Prisons Organization of Iran referred to drugs, theft and crimes against individuals as the first three crimes of the country, and stated, 'Convicted Afghan inmates fall in the same three categories of crime: 30% of theft, 17% of crimes against persons and 36% of narcotics.
