Austria: Iran champion of multilateralism

IRNA Austrian envoy to Iran referred to President Hassan Rouhani's speech at United Nations General Assembly, saying that Iran appeared as the champion of multilateralism.

Schulz made the remarks addressing a ceremony held to mark the Austrian National Day.

'A final remark on the new perception of Iran in the world: at last months UNGA we saw Iran gaining moral high-ground and taking side as a champion of multilateralism,' he said.

Referring to the trip made by Iranian president to Austria on July 4, he said 'not only the excellent bilateral relations were lifted to a new level, the visit that took place in the wake of the US withdrawal from the JCPOA also served to inspire Iran not to lose trust in effective multilateral action and to keep up with its worthy strategy of restraint.'

Elaborating on the reason why EU partners are attempting to normalize economic relations with Iran, Schulz said, 'Preserving the nuclear deal with Iran is a matter of respecting international agreements.'

'We are determined to protect the freedom of our economic operators to pursue legitimate business with Iran,' he reiterated.

'To this end, extensive work has been undertaken to date, to set up a legal entity to facilitate legitimate market-based payment channels which will allow European companies to continue trade and could be opened to other partners in the world who have put in place accounting systems compliant with international standards as well as compatible governance structures, applying Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) rules,' he said.

Austria recognizes that Iran by continuing to fully and effectively implement its nuclear-related commitment.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Schulz referred to Iran as complying with its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, saying the country has a universally endorsed, indivisible and interdependent and interrelated right to fully enjoy economic benefits from the JCPOA.
