Launching Shalamcheh-Basra railway vital for boosting exports: Official

IRNA Launching Shalamcheh-Basra railway is important for increasing exports capacities, adviser to Iran president and secretary of the Supreme Council of Iran's Free Trade, Industrial and Special Economic Zone said.


Shalamcheh is a town in Khuzestan Province of Iran near Iraq border and Basra is an important port in southern Iraq.

Shalamcheh-Basra railway is an important and strategic project of free zones in Iran, Morteza Bank said Friday night addressing a meeting which was held with the attendance of the Head of Presidential Office Mahmoud Vaezi in Shalamche border terminal.

Construction of the Shalamcheh railway to Basra is one of the basic infrastructure projects providing significant capacity for Iran exports, Bank said.

Referring to signing an MoU between Iran and Iraq, he said free zones are ready to implement this strategic project.

The Supreme Council of Iran's Free Trade, Industrial and Special Economic Zone is ready for executing the plan if the Ministry of Road and Urban Development agrees, he added.

Shalamcheh-Basra railway will develop international travels, he said, adding that the plan will also facilitate Arbaeen pilgrims transportation.
