Iran asks for French officials' realism

FNA - Iran's foreign ministry blasted France for freezing assets belonging to Iranian nationals in response to an alleged plot in June to attack a gathering of Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO, also known as the MEK, PMOI and NCRI) terrorist group in Paris, calling on the French officials to decide based on realities.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly protests at the detention of an Iranian diplomat, calls for his immediate release and dismisses allegations (against him) again," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Tuesday.

"Therefore, we want the French officials to be realistic about the Islamic Republic of Iran," he added.

Qassemi warned of plots by ill-wishers to damage the relations between Iran and France and other influential European states.

Back in June, a joint statement by the Belgian prosecutor and the intelligence services claimed that the two suspects in Belgium were intercepted by Belgian police, with 500 grams of TATP, a home-made explosive produced from easily available chemicals, as well as a detonation device found in their car.

It added that the diplomat at the Iranian embassy in the Austrian capital, Vienna, was arrested in Germany. The statement gave no further details about the diplomat other than saying the diplomat was suspected of having been in contact with the Belgian pair arrested.

After the allegations, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif dismissed as a "sinister false flag ploy" the allegations that one of the country's diplomats was plotting a bomb attack on a recent meeting of the MKO in Paris.

"How convenient: Just as we embark on a presidential visit to Europe, an alleged Iranian operation and its 'plotters' arrested," Zarif wrote on his twitter page.

He underlined that the Islamic Republic "unequivocally condemns all violence and terror anywhere, and is ready to work with all concerned to uncover what is a "sinister false flag ploy".
