Iran rejects US accusations, justifications for closing Basra consulate


MNA Irans foreign ministry has condemned and dismissed allegations made by Washington for shutting down the US consulate in the Iraqi city of Basra, saying that the Americans remarks are unjustified, unnecessary and clearly part of a blame game.







ForeignMinistry SpokesmanBahramGhasemisaid on Saturday thatthe Islamic Republic of Irancensuresany attack on diplomats and diplomatic places.

The ridiculous justification[providedby Americans]forthe closure of the US Consulate General in Basra, whichcame after weeks of propagandaand false allegations against Iran and the Iraqi forces, is a suspicious moveaimed atevading responsibilityandpinning the blame on others, notedGhasemi.

Suchclaims are made whilethere are numerousovert and covertindicationsthatforeign agentswere involvedin arecentbrutal attack on the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Basra,he noted.

It is clear that such childishjustificationsby the USarepart ofitsadventurist policiesandthe White Housesplot to depict Iraq as an insecure country, he went on to say.

He also said the Americans raise such claims in a bid to put pressure on theIraqigovernment, which is of coursea gross and condemnedmove.
