China hails Tehran meeting on Syria crisis

IRNA China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) welcomed recent efforts made by presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey to find a solution to Syria crisis.

Ma Zhaoxu made the remarks addressing the Security Council meeting held on Tuesday in New York on the outcomes of the Tehran summit, saying there is no alternative to a political settlement to Syria crisis.

Appreciating the initiative of the peace guarantors in Syria, Ma Zhaoxu urged full respect for Syrias sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and warned 'against the threat of force by reflex.'

Elsewhere in his remarks, Chinese envoy called international community to continue to leverage the role of the United Nations as the primary negotiator in Syria and help to guide the parties through a realistic and peaceful dialogue process.

In related news, the Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the UN Mansour Ayyad Al-Otaibi rejected the ability of military choice to help those living in Idlib, adding, the military intervention will open the door to a severe humanitarian catastrophe.

In the same Security Council session, the United Kingdoms permanent representative to the UN Karen Pirece cited the Special Envoys observation that progress will be impossible if there is a military assault.

The presidents of Iran, Russia, and Turkey gathered on September 7 in Tehran as the follow up of the Astana Summit.

The three countries emphasized Syrias sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the UN Charter principles.
