Zarif: Sri Lanka, Singapore visits opportunities for more ties

IRNA - Iran's Foreign Minister said in a Twitter post on Wednesday his meetings with Sri Lankan high-ranking officials helped consolidation of bilateral relations between the two nations.

'Just finished excellent meetings with the President, the Prime Minister, the Speaker of Parliament & the Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, consolidating long & friendly bilateral relations based on mutual respect,' Mohammad-Javad Zarif wrote in his tweet.

Foreign Minister Zarif arrived in Colombo on Tuesday to hold talks with high-ranking officials of the South Asian country, including Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena.

Iran's top diplomat, who departed Colombo for Singapore, also described his upcoming talks with his counterparts at ASEAN ministerial session as an opportunity for strengthening relations with more friendly nations.

He is scheduled to sign the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) in Singapore.

The visits and new developments come amid US pressures on Iran that has been exercised through imposing sanctions after Washington's unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal in May.
