India keen to develop Iran ties despite sanctions: Envoy

IRNA Indian ambassador said on Tuesday that the country is committed to promote relations with Iran despite the US sanctions.

Indian officials are exploring avenues for establishment of new banking mechanisms to protect the two countries' economic exchanges, Saurabh Kumar said in a meeting with Vice President and Head of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handcrafts and Tourism Organization Ali Asghar Mounesan.

He noted that India is ready to help Iran bypass the current situation.

The envoy said that New Delhi has asked the European members of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to prepare their package of proposals to save the Iranian nuclear deal as soon as possible.

US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that Washington would pull out of Iran nuclear deal and re-impose nuclear sanctions on Iran.

This is while most world powers, including Russia, China, and the European Union have repeatedly stressed that keeping the deal is in the interest of the world peace and security.
