MNA Iranian foreign minister has held talks with the Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad in Tehran to discuss the issues of mutual interests.
According to Iran's Foreign Ministry's official website, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held a meeting with Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad yesterday.
During the meeting in Tehran, Zarif and Mekdad discussed a range of regional and international issues.
The two sides also exchanged views on the latest field developments of Syria as well as the political settlement of the countrys crisis.
According to Syria's SANA news agency, whose report on the meeting gives much more details, the two diplomats discussed issues of common interest and the latest developments in Syria.
The discussion touched upon means of bolstering bilateral cooperation in political, economic, and strategic levels, stressing the need for continuing consultations and coordination in a way that serves the interests of both countries and their peoples, SANA said.
Zarif congratulated the Syrian people over the victories achieved against terrorism and the achievement of local reconciliations, adding that Syrias victory over terrorism is a victory for all the countries in the region and the world in facing this scourge which threatens international peace and security, SANA added.
Mekdad, for his part, reiterated condemnation of the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Iran, stressing that Syria stands by Irans people, government, and leadership in confronting the international pressure exerted by the US and its allies against Iran.
SANA said that Mekdad saw that Washingtons withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear agreement will create a profound imbalance in international relations that cannot be addressed, considering that it ignored the UN role and the logic of consensus governing international relations and played into the hands of the policies of treachery and aggression.
Mekdad also praised Irans support for Syria in its war against terrorism, considering it, together with that provided by Russia and Hezbullah, a key factor in achieving victory over terrorism, affirming that terrorism which rocks any country in the region is in fact jeopardizing the entire world.
Mekdad further clarified that he discussed with Iranian officials the great efforts of Iran and Russia during the recent meetings in Geneva, affirming Syrias absolute trust in its allies.
The Syrian deputy foreign minister and his accompanying delegation arrived in Tehran yesterday. In addition to foreign minister Zarif, the Syrian diplomats have so far held talks with senior Iranian officials including the top Aide to Iran's Leader Ali Akbar Velayati and Senior Assistant to Irans Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari.
