Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi says foreign interference will further complicate the ongoing crisis which is gripping Syria.The Islamic Republic of Irans stance on Syria has been clear from the start and we reject any foreign interference in this country and believe that it was these [types of] foreign interference that complicated the Syria crisis, Salehi said during a Wednesday meeting with former Lebanese President Emil Lahoud in Tehran.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Friends of Syria Conference which is being held in the Iranian capital attended by representatives from around 40 countries. The international event seeks to find a political solution to the foreign-backed crisis in the Arab country.
Salehi further hailed Lahouds clear stance on supporting Lebanons resistance movement Hezbollah during and after his term, underlining his major role in maintaining stability and peace in the country.
For his part, Lahoud also expressed gratitude to Iran over its support for Syria and Lebanon.
The former Lebanese president said some countries claim to be seeking democracy in Syria, while they are scared of the popularity of President Bashar al-Assad and oppose his participation in the election.
He also called on the Western countries to stop sowing sectarian discord in Syria in an attempt to prevent the realization of the Arab nations will.
Unrest has gripped Syria for over two years and many people, including large numbers of Syrian security personnel, have lost their lives in the foreign-sponsored militancy.
Western powers and their regional allies including the Israeli regime, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar have joined forces in supporting the armed militant groups in the Arab state.
On May 23, President Assad said, Syria is determined to tackle terrorism and those who support it regionally and globally, and to find a political solution to the crisis.
