IRNA � Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi congratulated the Iraqi nation and government on the successful holding of parliamentary elections in the country.


He said late Monday that the Iraqi people consolidated their achievements and victories in the fight against terrorism through their participation in the election.

�By participating in the election, the Iraqi nation once again tried to strengthen their achievements and victories in the counter-terrorism campaign,� he said.

People of the country indicated that under the guidelines of religious authorities and through national unity, they are able to play a crucial role in consolidating stability, peace and prosperity of Iraq and regional security, he said.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready for contributing to the country�s reconstruction and development, as it favors further strengthening of political stability and democracy in Iraq, he said.

Of 24 million Iraqis qualified for voting, 11 million participated in the major political event.
