IRNA - Former US energy secretary Ernest Moniz said on Sunday that the United States' relationship with key allies could be undermined should the country's President Donald Trump decides to pull out of the Iran nuclear agreement.

Moniz, who served under former President Barack Obama, said opting out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) would negatively affect the country's relationship with key partners.

'This would be an enormous wedge between us and our European allies in particular, who have announced they are willing to work with us on these other issues, but it must be in the context of the Iran agreement as a foundation for doing the rest of that,' Moniz said on ABC's 'This Week With George Stephanopoulos.'

The US administration has done a great deal during the past years to kill Iran nuclear deal.

Trump is expected to announce his decision regarding suspending sanctions against Iran and continuing the implementation of the JCPOA on May 12.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has already confirmed ten times Iran's commitment to the landmark July 2015 international deal.
