IRNA � Swiss Ambassador to Iran Markus Leitner said on Sunday that his country�s stance is to preserve the JCPOA, as Bern played a major role in nuclear talks between Iran and 5+1 Group.


The JCPOA stands for Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the official name of the agreement reached between Iran and six world major powers in 2015 to give Tehran sanctions relief in return for scaling back its nuclear program.

In a Sunday's meeting with Head of Majlis� Research Center Mohammad Reza Jalali, he added, �We still feel the same responsibility towards JCPOA and will continue the previous course regarding the deal.�

The Swiss envoy hailed Majlis Research Center�s scientific and academic activities as professional, noting that center has achieved many successes in scientific and academic arenas.

Noting that advancing Majlis� strategic goals with a focus on performance of Majlis� Research Center is admirable, the ambassador hailed the entity�s function in providing the MPs with advices as efficient.

Expressing pleasure with development of ties with Iran, he said, �We see numerous capabilities and capacities in Iran.�

Leitner also hoped that promotion of scientific and research exchanges between Swiss and Iranian universities would help boost bilateral ties.

Jalali, for his part, said that given the two countries� academic capacities, enhancing scientific and academic ties between the two countries is important.

The Islamic Republic of Iran and Switzerland have good ties and there are suitable areas for broadening of scientific interaction, he said.

The Tehran MP also hoped that the two countries would be able to use each other�s educational experience in promoting capabilities in this arena.

Noting that the JCPOA serves as a test for Iran�s confidence in the other parties, Jalali said that the landmark deal could be a starting point for cooperation and confidence in the opposing party, but given certain countries� attitude towards it, especially that of the US, it has turned into a big element of non-confidence for Iran.

Iran is prepared and capable of holding talks to solve regional problems, he said, adding that if implementation of the JCPOA is damaged, the chance of any talks and confidence building with the West will be nil in future.
