Irans chess grandmaster Maghsoodloo clinches title at Sharjah Masters


Press TV - Junior Iranian chess grandmaster Parham Maghsoodloo has finished first to pick up the trophy at the end of the second edition of Sharjah Masters International Chess Tournament in the United Arab Emirates.

The 17-year-old Iranian athlete clinched the title at the Sharjah Chess & Cultural Club on Thursday evening after he managed to keep his record unblemished, and overcame Ukrainian chess grandmaster Yuriy Hryhorovych Kryvoruchko in the last match.

Earlier in the tournament, Maghsoodloo had defeated Indian and English chess grandmasters Sethuraman Panayappan Sethuramanand Gawain Christopher B. Jones in the sixth and seventh rounds to find a place in the title challenge.

The second edition of Sharjah Masters International Chess Tournament started on April 15, and wrapped up on April 19, 2018.

The tournament attracted 130 chess players from 29 countries, including Azerbaijan, China, Egypt, England, India, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Russia, Sweden, Ukraine and Vietnam.
